Our Mission & Vision

Welcome to Yekson Museum and Gallery of African Art, a Non- for- Profit organization in North America, dedicated to being a beacon of cultural excellence that will be attracting millions of visitors annually over time. The Yekson Museum and Gallery of African Art will be Collecting works of art ranges from cutting-edge contemporary art to significant works by Africans/Black artists across the globe and cultural primitive masterpieces. The Yekson Museum and Gallery of African Art present wide-ranging exhibitions and programs, including solo exhibitions and acquisitions by diverse and underrepresented Black artists from around the world.

To inspire future generation to appreciate, preserved, promote, celebrate African and Black heritage. Also to be a research centre for educational institution across the globe. We are proud to offer an inclusive space where diverse African and Black cultures converge, fostering education, history empathy, understanding, and a share human experience.

At Yekson, we believe in the power of art and history to connect people and communities. Our exhibits and programs are designed to engage visitors of all ages and backgrounds, encouraging a deeper understanding of the rich tapestry of African and Black cultures. Through our collections, we aim to highlight the contributions and stories that have shaped our world, inspiring a global community to embrace diversity and inclusivity.

2005

Founding Vision: Yekson Museum and Arts Gallery is conceptualized by cultural enthusiasts determined to create a platform for preserving African and Black heritage.

2007

Community Roots: Grassroots programs launch in Benin City, engaging local artists and storytellers to showcase cultural treasures in pop-up exhibits.

2010

Gallery Opening: Yekson Museum officially opens its doors to the public, unveiling its first curated collection of African and Diaspora art.

2014

Educational Expansion: Interactive workshops and school outreach programs begin, fostering cultural learning among children and young adults.
